Verizon Invests 5.4 Billion in New Jersey, Activates World’s First Commercial 5G Network

New York City-based Verizon Communications Inc., is busy making improvements to its network. The company announced that it has invested $5.4 Billion in its New Jersey network enhancements since 2015. The company also announced its roll out of the world’s first commercial 5G network on Monday, October 1, 2018.

New Jersey continues to be a major market for Verizon since commuters who work in New York City business, technology and Wall Street reside a short commute away from Manhattan. The system upgrades include 4×4 MIMO antenna technology which allows your device to use multiple antennae to boost data speeds, Fios Gigabit Connection, offering download speeds of up to 940 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 880 Mbps to almost the entire Fios footprint, Continued replacement of aged copper wiring with more resilient fiber-optic technology in towns and cities along the Northeast coast. In 2017, we laid almost 7,000 miles of fiber-optic cables, which is like wrapping the moon around its equator.

Verizon’s deployment of its 5G technology started miles away from New Jersey with the world’s first 5G customer installation in Houston, TX on Monday morning. Additional installations of 5G Home start in Los Angeles, Sacramento and Indianapolis.

Local First on 5G customers in each city will be available at their homes to discuss their 5G Home installations and being one of the first in the world to have 5G broadband internet service. For more details about Verizon’s upgrades in and out of the NYC area, visit verizon.com
