New York City WiFi Gets A Boost From LinkNYC

In the wake of infrastructure upgrades and booming tech startups, New York City has become a destination for tech innovators in both devices and big data. The city has become home of co-working spaces, trendy cafes and all the things we normally associate with Silicon Valley.

LinkNYC, the organization started to spread free WiFi to the masses across the city,  has been growing at leaps and bounds. The organization keeps people glued to its social media pages in hopes of finding out where the next hotspot will be.

LinkNYC‘s biggest challenge has been transforming old New York City telephone booths into technology machines offing WiFi for tourists and NYC residents strolling around in town looking for the next free spot to grab a download. The organization boasts about the 100,000 people who log on to the technology across the city.

The efforts to spread the WiFi has picked up in 2016 with a lot more towers, beta testing and new locations in the city. LinkNYC is the new face of New York City, more development, change and competitive with the west coast. All eyes are on the city to see what new thing will happen next.

I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with people around the city and most people live the idea of spreading free wifi and becoming more tech friends of a city. There are also a few New Yorkers who fear that the innovation could poison the vibe of the city making of more of a trendy hot spot than an iconic big city with diversity and a big attitude. Regardless of opinions times are changing and so is New York City. I’m on board as long as there’s no interfering with my shopping, city landmarks, restaurants and a great pizza slice.
