Westfield World Trade Center Opens August 16

The World Trade Center is reaching another milestone in its redesign. Westfield World Trade Center announced that it will open its 365,000 square-foot mega retail center in lower Manhattan on Tuesday, August 16. Many of the stores in the complex will open at noon on the same day. Westfield’s opening will include family day celebrations for residents and tourists. As a part of the events a special flag commemoration ceremony will be held in partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

“The World Trade Center is a symbol of hope, opportunity, progress, and perseverance,” William HechtWestfield’s Chief Operating Officer in the United States, said in a statement.  “Westfield is profoundly proud to be a part of this project and to introduce new experiences and energy to Lower Manhattan.  We are incredibly excited to open our doors to our neighbors, New York and tri-state area families, visitors, and all of our partners on August 16.”

Westfield calls itself the new port of entry to Lower Manhattan. The location site includes 60,000 neighborhood residents and diverse retail including technology and fashion segments. An estimated 300,000 daily commuters, 13 subway / PATH trains, multiple ferry lines, and an additional 15 million annual global travelers will have access to the area. The area integrates the Santiago Calatrava designed Oculus, street-level space in WTC Towers Three and four, and underground galleries across the World Trade Center campus.
