New York City, Newark Make Finalist List for Amazon HQ2

New York City and Newark, N.J. made the list of finalists for Amazon‘s planned second headquarters (HQ2). The company released the list Thursday listing the top 20 finalists. Both New york City and Newark have tough competition with Atlanta, Boston and Dallas. The finalists were chosen from a list of 238 cities. The city with the winning bid will benefit from amazon’s presence with 50,000 high paying jobs and a $5 billion investment in the city.

“Thank you to all 238 communities that submitted proposals. Getting from 238 to 20 was very tough – all the proposals showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity,” said Holly Sullivan, Amazon Public Policy. “Through this process we learned about many new communities across North America that we will consider as locations for future infrastructure investment and job creation.”

Amazon has 540,000 employees worldwide and has has invested more than $100 billion in the U.S., including its main headquarters in Seattle.
