FTS Fiber Builds 110 Mile Maryland Network

Maryland-based FTS Fiber started construction on a 110-mile network that will provide more service for its customers in the state. The infrastructure expansion will include dark fiber installation by Whiting-Turner. As a part of the project, FTS will partner with ISP provider ThinkBig Networks, to complete Kent County installations by  August 2016, and work is scheduled to be completed by mid to late 2017.

“We are very excited to be bringing this fiber infrastructure to Kent County,” Brett Hill, FTS Fiber’s CEO said in a statement. “The changes this county will encounter once the network is up and running are endless. In the meantime, we want residents of Kent County to be aware that contractors will be digging and laying the fiber-optic cables in their towns and neighborhoods. We plan to keep the community updated on our progress as we go.”

FTS Fiber is a dark fiber supplier providing network infrastructure in rural areas and major markets of the United States. The company focuses on bringing fiber to markets where larger companies have chosen to skip.

Smaller fiber provider companies have been growing in the New York tri-state area and the surrounding states. Data centers have been expanding to accommodate the growth. During the first quarter of 2016, Newark-based data center 165 Halsey Street announced that a portion of its facility was 100 percent occupied with connections from fiber providers in the New York City area.
