Delta Technical Problem Grounds Flights Worldwide
Delta Airlines grounded its planes after a technical glitch caused an outage among its computer systems. The outage affected planes on the ground Sunday night. Flights in the sky at the time of the outage were not affected. Passengers were stranded across the globe including New York City’s major airports. The company issued a statement via social media apologizing for the disruption. Delta’s hub airports experienced the heaviest delays. “Delta teams are expeditiously working to fix a systems outage that has resulted in departure delays and cancellations for flights on the ground,” The company said in a statement on its website.
In a separate incident in 2016, Delta systems experienced an outage grounding planes for hours. The outage caused over 300 flight cancellations worldwide. The power outage occurred at Delta’s Atlanta hub at about 2:30 am eastern standard time. The airline issued travel vouchers on Monday August 8 through Friday August 12, 2016.
Delta teams are working to fix a systems outage that has resulted in departure delays. Flights in the air remain unaffected.
