New York City to Re-Open July 1 at 100 Percent Capacity [Video]

New York City is welcoming its citizens and tourists back to pre-pandemic activity. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced New York City will push to open restaurants, retail stores, gyms and other attractions at 100 percent capacity on July 1. The Mayor announced the ambitious goal aimed at boosting job and economic growth, during his weekly press conference for the media and residents of the nation’s largest city.

“Good news today, as we move forward with a recovery for all of us, it’s time to set a goal for a full reopening in New York City and that goal is July 1st. Mayor de Blasio said. “Now we can see that light at the end of the tunnel… This is going to be the summer of New York City.”

The mayor credited the large number of vaccinated New Yorkers for the ability to re-open the city.

“Let’s keep moving with vaccinations,” He said.

New York City has been focused on boosting vaccinations and lowering its Covid-19 infection rate. New York City Wired previously reported the city’s goal of vaccinating 100,000 residents per week until most of the 8.5 million who live in the area, get shots in arms. New York City also called on state and federal partners to open up the eligibility criteria so New York City had the ability to vaccinate more New Yorkers, and accelerate the speed of vaccine manufacturing to ensure we have sufficient supply to rapidly reach all New Yorkers as soon as possible.
