NYC Free WiFi: Best Local Hot Spots in Midtown West

The overcrowding of chain coffee shops and cafes like Starbucks and Pret-a-Manger can become very frustrating for the everyday Wi-Fi hungry consumer. Most popular chains offer wireless connectivity, in addition to their food service. Seating areas tend to remain full of patrons hunched over their devices for longer periods of time. According to CNET, most chains usually do not make the conscious effort to eject patrons who have taken advantage of the free Wi-Fi.

So where do you go when you’re in Midtown? You want to sit and get your work done, but there’s no space for you? Luckily, Midtown offers other options to get your wireless internet fix aside from the popular and highly frequented chains. Below are four tried-and-true Midtown cafes and coffee shops that offer reliable Wi-Fi for when your local chain shop is filled to the brim.

1.Café Bonjour –  18 West 38 Street, New York, NY 10016

This medium-sized local eatery offers password protected wireless internet and with a diverse menu that serves food for every meal throughout the day. Their Wi-Fi runs at a relatively normal speed, with minimal wait time for your device to load.

 2.Mustang Cafe – 22 W 38th Street, New York, NY 10018

Specializing in breakfast and brunch, the small cafe offers limited seating. While they do provide Wi-Fi for patrons, it is currently down and should be up and running again very soon.

3. Culture Espresso – 72 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018 and

For those who like to eat and work in a more aesthetically pleasing environment, Culture Espresso is the place to go. Another fairly small shop, they also offer limited seating and password protected Wi-Fi. Compared to the others, Culture’s Wi-Fi is relatively slower in loading time. If their West 38th Street location is too packed for you, check out their new, more spacious location at 247 W 36th St.

4. Blacksmith Cafe – 20 W 37th St, New York, NY 10018

The largest of the four options, the Blacksmith Cafe offers a two-tiered seating area with fast, password-protected WiFi for its patrons. The cafe also provides a very diverse menu that ranges from American to Asian cuisine, there is something for everyone here.

Unlike chains that usually have public wireless access with WiFi passwords posted in a clear space within the location, all of the above spaces require patrons to ask a worker for the WiFi password for access.
